But there's no compelling reason in the first place to visualize selection by inverting the colors. If you want "consistency" it can be achieved by having an actual selection color pair, or by _always_ using the default colors, but that's bikeshed painting. The reason why someone might have same-fg-as-bg on their screen is beside the point - having no way to make that text visible is a usability issue.
