Maybe I can help with MinGW:
Recently, I had the (bad) idea to run a {{mingw-get update}} on my
installation, in order to get the newest C++ stuff, and so on. It turned out to
be a really bad idea and I was really glad I had a backup after hours fiddling
around with it. Main problem was, that after I upgraded MinGW I got a lot of
{{autoconf}} errors during {{configure}}, telling me that some [headers were
present, but could not be
compiled|http://www.gnu.org/savannah-checkouts/gnu/autoconf/manual/autoconf-2.69/html_node/Present-But-Cannot-Be-Compiled.html].
