I think I can be hands-off on the Jenkins Thrift-precommit job now.
https://builds.apache.org/job/Thrift-precommit/418 is running with changes
that include the equivalent of `git clean -fdx && git reset --hard HEAD` to
get around the merge issue as well as more shimming in the docker image
build to add a jenkins user to the image to avoid perms issues.
