Nick Burch commented on TIKA-1491:
----------------------------------

Normally the x- prefix is used for unofficial types, see
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2045#section-6.3 and
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2045#section-5.1 and
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2048#section-2.1.4

Following that approach would probably mean image/x-bpg for now, then image/bpg
with an alias of image/x-bpg once the BPG community got the mimetype accepted

Anyone know what other applications are using for now, and if the BPG community
has plans to submit a registration request to the IETF any time soon?

> Following the release of the [BPG (Better Portable
> Graphics)|http://bellard.org/bpg/] format a few days ago, I created the magic
> definitions for this format. See attached file. I've tested this against the
> example files listed [here|http://fileformats.archiveteam.org/wiki/BPG].
> Note that no officially registered MIME type exists for this format. I picked
> {{image/bpg}} as this would be the most obvious choice, but I don't know if
> Tika sticks to any policy in such cases?
