The topic of JDK support was recently raised in the devlist
(https://lists.apache.org/thread/jt0t8h6l64z2pfcy8q1kzgnlx8j476ck) with
consensus supporting more aggressive adoption of new LTS JDKs as they become
available.
This JIRA may be updated as major blockers to the upgrade are identified.
