Well, when we're asked we decide by vote. But since we don't do the localisation in the german-lang project (this is done Sun-internal), we are basically not involved in the translation of OOo. ciao Christian
Hi Christian,
Thanks for explaining to Simon how the German terms were decided. You forgot to mention that "Assistent" is the German translation for "Wizard" that pretty much all software products on the German market use, including Microsoft Office. That is probably why the de list voted for it. I'm just glad I asked them to decide ;-)
Simon,
Every language version should decide for "itself" how to translate the texts. The language leads (trained experts in localization and translation) for the languages Sun supports should work with the community. That is why I work with the German community.
I don't normally read this list, so mail me if you have further questions.
In the Dutch Microsoft Office, "Wizard" is not translated. In nl.openoffice.org the term "Assistent" is preferred. I think the fact that this is a Dutch word, and that it much better describes what a Wizard/AutoPilot actually does, outweighs the familiarity that "Wizard" may have due to its use in MS Office.
...and just in case you forgot me:
Why would you think that? :)
Thanks for your explanation!
Vriendelijke groet, Simon Brouwer.
