Things are halted ! so here is a call for volunteer(s) for the PhP
+MySQL design and implementation
Not so good. However I do have some experience in PHP and MySQL
already, so will be able to help with this.
Regarding the structure of the extensions website, the main purpose is
to make the extensions visible and browsable as soon as possible
I think things can evolve once a first minimal site is up
Agreed.
Some proposal has been to take the existing Mozilla source code,
i'm ok
with this if code can be provided and adapted.
Is our Extension structure compatible ?
But i've no problem with it providing it remains understandable and do
not take ages.
One difference with Mozilla is that the whole installation process is
dealt with from within the application. I'm not sure ooo has a full
blown web browser builtin that would support this. OpenOffice.org
already supports opening of files from http:// addresses and has a
web page creator component, so shouldn't be too much to adapt.
Once again, the urgent is to have a minimal thing up quickly
allowing
- defining/uploading an extension + description
- listing/searching extensions (basic searches first, then
browsable by categories aso)
- downloading extensions
This sounds appropriate for a start.
The graphical part will be taken by Ben (and any volunteer willing to
help him) and we need someone designing the php+mysql things
This will be a good thing as I'm not quite so good at the graphical
part.
Some additional info about me:
I'm currently part of the Mac Porting Project, and have dealt with
the redevelopment of the web pages there.
I'm a 4th (final) year student at Heriot-Watt University in
Edinburgh. My course is Computer Science.
