Hi Christian, et al.,
If we have to work around these declarations with implementing the new
design, this includes only a cascade of more !important declarations...
I agree - but cleaning it up on the life site is quite tricky..
My personal stance, but maybe a bit radical is:
HTML = text
no style, still text
change style, still text
current styling is broken
removing !important won't remove text (there are no display or
visibility related changes), secondly most formatting is based on tables
anyway, so we can't really break global elements.
sub sites that have been implementing non standard styles have already
introduced workarounds, using !important statements... but these won't
break because !important declarations are removed... only problem that
could arise is that they did not set e.g. a background and foreground
colour that are similar, but where only e.g. the foreground colour is
being overridden by an important statement, whereas the others are not.
But I think these maintainers have already experienced why cleaning up
is an important thing to do...
and last but not least... the current website style is broken as we are
writing... and we've been accepting this for months now... how is that
about messing up a live site? and now we should be too afraid of
changing this?
Louis, have you tried asking at the netbeans community already?
g.,
Maarten
