This may have been a temporary problem, at the same time I tested Firefox,
and while it seemed to work, it actually failed too, but it redirected to
a full login page, which did work. In Opera 9.63 and 10.0a I have now been
able to successfully login, though again it redirects to the full login
page before it seems to work successfully.

I use opera and is fine... however it could be a Opera on mobiles which
in this case would be a problem with ajax completely. Here is asomething
I have seen many companies doing is having a template for mobiles. To
answer him, he should choose register and THEN he will click on log in.
