Hi Bruce I was in Jakarta from 89 to 92 working on a bridge management project with Bina Marga. Much IT work in progress at that time already, coupled with the civil engineering side of things. Many of the project team (15 expats, Australian Aid project) had kids at JIS and BIS so I got to know them fairly well. Guess things have changed quite a bit since then - and not only in the schools!
Are you living N or S and is the traffic still as bad as ever? As Fridrich also mentioned, you could try the developer snapshot of OOo 2.0 as it has WP read built in now. It is a 99M download and is changing about once every week or so! It is worth getting the writerperfect system up and running under 1.1.4 though, although if you are going with RHEL with its ximian-ooo you may not need it? I tried to convert a number of documents from WP6, 8 and 9 to OOo and must say the text boxes etc. (ie the tricky stuff) did not come across well. I thought the easiest way for these docs was to use WP9 or 10 (under Windows) to open them and then save as a doc file (Word 97/XP) which then imported very nicely into OOo. I guess ymmv depending on the type of documents you have. For my wife Writerperfect was functioning ok on the previous installation of SuSE and I just need to get it running on the new 9.2 installation. That should wean her then totally off Windows. I got pdfKreator and pdftk working last night and am very happy with those tools, particularly when used with the extendedPDF macro for OOo. ok, better get back to it, enjoy your 32deg.
