As promised, here’s my current draft proposal (with much thanks to Barbara
Lewis who did a pass as well). Also, help me pick a title...
Abstract
TITLE:
• … and this time Y: Introducing Apache Yetus
• Apache Yetus - Helping Solve the Last Mile Problem
• Apache Yetus - Go from Code to Production, Faster
ABSTRACT:
In this time of rapidly growing software projects and software capabilities,
where it is expected for “software to eat the world,” there is still a huge
challenge going from source code to a tested, fully functional release. This is
the “last mile problem,” ensuring that vision and coding become real,
deployable software. To help address this problem, members of the extended
Apache Hadoop/”big data” ecosystem have joined forces to create tools that
reduce the burden. In this talk, Allen Wittenauer, a PMC member of the Apache
Yetus project, will discuss the various components that make up the Yetus
toolset, as well as how Apache Hadoop and other projects are using Apache Yetus
to improve release quality.
AUDIENCE:
The primary audience is anyone interested in improving their software lifecycle
processes, both open or closed source software. This includes contributors to
Apache Accumulo, Apache Hadoop, Apache HBase, and other projects utilizing
Apache Yetus who are curious about what happens behind the scenes. Other
audience members may be interested in which tools end up being created when
dealing with large, open source projects.
BENEFITS TO THE ECOSYSTEM:
The quality of software releases is of primary concern to many organizations,
and it is especially critical to large, open source projects involving the
contributions of tens of thousands of patches by hundreds of contributors and
committers. This presentation is an opportunity for all participants to learn
about real tools that anyone may use, to improve software releases today as
well as improve the state of the art in the future.
