Yes, it will work. 
I don't care much for +CMTI: (except about taking care that Kannel
doesnot interpert it +CMT:). the main reason is that (a) checking the
memory directly (+CPMS?) "feels" more "safe" as I don't care if I miss a
message from the modem for some reason. also - this way we can read
messages that were stored before Kannel was activated.
Checking also for +CMTI: and reading the single message delivered is
more correct (so once the patch is submitted to the CVS, my next goal is
to implement that), but it is also more complicated (mainly as we have
to implement both +CMTI: processing /and/ +CPMS quering), and I'm a big
fan of the KISS principle :-)
