it depends mainly on how you log within Kannel, ie. log-level etc. and what hardware you use. We had fakesmsc loop chaining with more then 2000 msg/sec and with our own smppbox server with over 600 msg/sec. Usually it's hard to reach those limits of the Kannel processes with "normal" SMSC connections.
