afaik the gprs connection works with the at commands as kannel does.
you could alter kannel to start/stop that connection, or you could try
if your provider supports something like multi-cards, and make another
modem fetch the messages. in germany o2 provides such a solution.
this might be used in setups, where you have a sim card installed in
your car audio system, so pherhaps ask your provider for a solution on
that problem, not on syncron using it to receive and send ;)

i've done a major rewrite to the kannel at driver, which could pherhaps
be added such a functionality. this work is still to be merged with
kannel.org.
