I need to upgrade my Mandrake 6.0 Linux 2.2.9 kernel to a 2.2.10 one and wish
to compile it by myself. I've read everything I could find on the subject but
yet have a few distro-related questions unanswered. So here they are:
1) linux-2.2.x/Documentation/Changes specify that I need libc5 version 5.4.46
in order to upgrade to a 2.2 kernel. Well, Mandrake comes with libc5 version
5.3.12-31 _and_ a 2.2 kernel. What's wrong? Will the 5.3.12 libc5 work with
linux-2.2.10?
2) Why on earth would I need libc5 with Mandrake 6.0 ? Wouldn't glibc
2.1.1 be all I need ?
3) Is there a way to know what configuration file has been use to build
the Mandrake 6.0 kernel? Is there a command I can use to ask the actual
system/kernel what features it has built in and what it has built as module? Or
may be is there some Mandrake document I haven't found which discribe the
builtin-vs-module map used by the kernels shipped with the distribution? Please
help me I don't want to break everything
Thank You
