I am using online updates of RPMs all the time. How is it dishonest to say 
that it just works for me, when this is the fact?

That will actually not hurt at all if you upgrade through PackageKit (with a 
frontend like plasma-pk-updates that does online updates) or dnfdaemon (with 
Dnfdragora or Yumex-DNF), because those run outside of the X session, they 
are activated off the D-Bus system bus (not the session bus).
