To be clear: I'm sure you had only the best intentions and are speaking only about your own parent. However, this kind of example (non-male assumed to not understand technology) does not foster inclusion (instead furthering a sexist stereotype). Some phrases that can be used instead: "a regular user" (what Till used), "nontechnical user", "non-programmer friend", "a Linux newcomer", "the average user", etc.. Hope that helps. Thanks, --Robbie
