There was, at one point, an open issue
on Valve's steam-on-linux github repo
regarding having a 64-bit client, including
at least:

   https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/3518

which was opened over a decade ago.
I actually think there are other open
issues in that repo (but too many to
search through).

I have no doubt Valve is aware of the
requirement(s).  There have been hints
they might be working on such.  They
have, to this point, not announced an
actual timeline for they might offer
such a 64-bit program.
