How long does it take to do the synthesis?
~40 minutes on my 2Ghz 800Mb ram One core computer
How much of the FPGA does it take?
Dont know, i need to check where to find that info first ;-)
If you run into some tricky stuff that you figured out can you
document it? (like for example problems to synthetize the SoC?)
no problems yet..
For synthesis have you used ISE GUI? or the build_bitstream.sh shell
script ?
no GUI all with milkymist makefiles and shell scripts
Hmmm, but would it take much effort to get it building under ISE? I
would be interested to see whether XST can do a better job of
Synthesis on my Virtex-5 (An XLT30 I think).
I guess ISE won't do an better, Milkymist makefiles and shell scripts
are using what ISE is using, xst and other Xilinx tools (xst for
synthesis, place & route, bitgen for bitstream generation etc).
ISE is just a GUI, nothing more.
Cheers,
Yann
