There is no smbd and nmbd process in Samba4, only "samba" one. Which
release of Samba are you using?

It's not a crash. It is a smb_panic() call we have voluntarily set here
to prevent the process from continuing when requirements are not met.

A full log of the samba server produced with 

/usr/local/samba/sbin/samba -d6 -i -M single would be useful.

Your smb.conf should also be valuable to figure out any potential
misconfiguration.

I think a sample screencast showing the whole procedure could be really
useful ...
