Seems like the conservatives are committed to takng the mysociety agenda to heart.
To take Tom on shows real, honest commitment - imagine the damage if they were to do something to cause him to leave... And with the transparency his appointment ensures for government data, any government is going to be far easier to keep tabs on. The 'freedom of information' act was one of the most citizen empowering pieces of legislation we have seen in modern times (and don't the government regret it?!) -- this could be the first step towards another giant leap.
