Hi all,

Some of you may be aware that I've put together a web service that used
the recently-released CodepointOpen data from Ordnance Survey. In a
nutshell it returns lat/lng and local authority data (as well as a few
other bits and bobs) in a number of formats (html, xml, json, csv, rdf
etc) eg:

http://www.uk-postcodes.com/postcode/WS136YY.xml

Nice. On a slightly related note, is there any published database or API that allows me to get from either a latitude/longitude or OS grid reference to local authority names, without needing to know the postcode first?

(I know it could be done indirectly by finding the nearest postcode to a point and then looking up the postcode in CodePoint, but that's not always going to be reliable near authority boundaries).

Believe you can do that from the ONS rest API.

If not, I can prob work something out.
