Hi Folks,

I'm new to all this.

I want to plot a simple chart showing the age of MPs (say in five year
buckets) and how they voted in the "Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill - 5 Feb
2013" in the UK Parliament. I can find the voting data on the publicwhip
website (it's at the bottom of this page
http://www.publicwhip.org.uk/division.php?date=2013-02-05&number=151&display
=allpossible) but I would like to get it as a spreadsheet (or a database)
and then programmatically grab MP's age from somewhere (e.g. by scraping
their date-of-birth from their Guardian profile). However I have come
unstuck finding the raw data. The publicdata page on raw data
(http://www.publicwhip.org.uk/project/data.php) mentions the debates files
made by the Parliament Parser project http://ukparse.kforge.net/parlparse/
which circularly points me to "voting record - attendance, rebellion rate
and individual votes in divisions are available from the Public Whip
project" http://publicwhip.owl/project/data.php (broken link).

Should I instead be exploring pw_cache_tables.sql.bz2 in
http://www.publicwhip.org.uk/data/ ? Of course if I am going to be parsing
HTML to get MP's age I might as well scrape HTML for the voting data too.

Any advice gratefully received.

Cheers,

Tim.
