Justa m idea: wouldn't it be a lot easier to use the LIMIT option of the query instead (not sure if that would actually improve performance, but it may be easier)
I know this defeats the 'teaching the user' bit, but personally I'm more interested in boosting performance that teaching the user how to search. "You get max 100 results. Live with it." Gomez
