I don't think we should put vague interfaces back.
If we want to properly clean the code, this is not a good start - if this is a precedent it means we will never get rid of code that is currently in use, even if it is 'bad' code.
In agree we need a fix, but I suggest we look for a constructive aproach, using existing, generic, interfaces instead of the (specific) CounterInterface.
