But we are now in the process of rethinking how we should handle parts of MMBase, and we cannot delay the release with these kind of discussions.
I think that we all have some ideas about how we would see MMBase in the near future, something like a small core with applications that you can run on top of it. I would suggest to discuss these topics at the next developers meeting. And i am convinced that we are all thinking about something equal.
The reason for making the branch is to make a distinction between a version in which bugs are going to be fixed, and another version in which the community can continue development. I suppose that in the near future the MMBase applications will get ther own branches and releases.
just my thoughts,
Rob
b.t.w. I think we should make a page at MMBase.org which shows which MMBase applications and 3th party applications are available right now. Should we make a little project for this ?

I think that because the process is not fully automatic you can't expect the
distro to act stable. every distro will have small changes
We have been throuh this process a number of times.
For de distro we add applications that nobody wants to use in real live the community.
This makes the distro not suitable for moost "real" users. who then again need to strip down the distro
Once they want a "small" change like a small code modification they need to "switch" to the
mmbase CVS structure
They need to be able to create the distro from something like an Ant script.
or install the email application
I agre there is need for a "MMRunner" but we keep making the same mistake
"light mmbase","working mmbase with examples","light mmbase","working mmbase with examples".
creating a branch won't solve the problem
