I also find it a worrying that it seems like no code in MMBase is good enough and that everything must be totally redesigned, and that there is no room for incremental improvements. In my view this adds strongly to the instability of the code as with redesigns new side effects and bugs are introduced instead of fixing and improving current code. I do agree that obviously bad code (like the scan 'parsing' engine) are up for redesign, but not that every small change gets blown up into a full-size project.
