i guess i know what you're thinking of: making the power button something which

i believe that any computer must be turned on or off, and that this function is distinct from actual use. i don't think merging functionality into the power button is doing anything but en-bloating a very, very primal function of the system.

I'm sorry Jay but you must have missed something in the computerworld...

ever since I changed my AT motherboard for an ATX, the powerbutton got a new function.

Or if I want the old function, I have to press it for 4 seconds?

And that's not only computers. My Nokia Phone (very un-smart just phone brick) also has multiple functions on the 'power putton'.

Pressing the button is used for changing profiles or silence the phone.
Pressing it for serval seconds does a poweroff.

And this phone has dozends of buttons, not only two...

Still I agree with you and I, as a palm user, feel much the same as Shawn. Why do I need to close an app?

I think this question leads to something...
Question is. Can we do this with standard Linux apps without breaking anything?
