Using e-smith 4.1.1 on a farily modest Amd486 box
(120 MHz with 24 MB RAM & Realtek PCI NIC),
we've noticed some unexplaned disk activity, at times.

Today, after creating 2 new Users (on an otherwise
clean, newly installed 4.1.1 box, running - by admin
since 1 Mar or so), we had a look at active proesses
(using PuTty as telnet client, via the LAN) with ps -e

Lots more httpd's and a few more httpd-admin's than
we had expected (11 & 4, resp'ly) were still on ps's list
(parent process of each being "?")

Also out in somewhat greater number than (for some
reason) we had expected were these processes:

   mysqld (3 each)
   squid (2 each)
   nmbd (2 each)

'any explanations for the numbers (greater than one)?

Lastly, what is the signifigance of "rpmq <defunct>"
in the column of process names returned by "ps -e"?

While we have your attention... can someone kindly
point us at some very specific HowTo info for making
PuTty work as a SSH-client to the same e-smith 4.1.1
box, thanks (including how to fill in PuTty's SSH config
form details, what to get from one sys to another, by
way of authentication key(s), et al.)

MTIA (MANY Thanks-in-Advance)
