RedHat 6.2 Hardware Compatibility List:

The following types of tape drives are compatible with Red Hat Linux
6.2/Intel, but they are unsupported. There is no need to build a custom
kernel to use these devices (the driver modules are already part of the
kernel-modules package):
Floppy-controller tape drives.
IDE tape drives.
ATAPI compliant parallel port tape drives.
It appears you 'should' be able to use a parallel port tape drive with
minor device module and flexbackup config changes. However I would
recommend you consider either an external IDE or scsi tape solution.
