NOTE: The PCI version of the adapter only works in machines which 
_ONLY_ have PCI slots. If you have _any_ ISA slots, you must use the 
ISA adapter. Bizarre, but true - expect your machine to lock up otherwise.

And Richard, the simplest solution was Dan's option 1. a wireless hub.
To configure the e-smith server just add it as another local network
if the wireless hub does routing, or do nothing at all if it just acts
as a wireless->wired bridge.

As for range, I can get through four double brick walls, but a fifth
stops the signal (no antenna). So I have to sit on the left of my patio,
rather than the right and point my laptop at the hallway :-)
