You have said this before, but I cannot replicate it. "cpio -dump" is a
valid command as far as I can tell, in cpio 2.4.2-13 (which is close to
hand), so I assume it is in 2.4.2-20, which is used in e-smith 4.1.2.

The "-dump" in any case, is actually a transcription error. My original
had "-dvmp". "-dmp" should work also.
