---------------------------- SME Server V5.1beta3 Release notes - Dec 12, 2001 ----------------------------
The Network Server Solutions Group of Mitel Networks is pleased to announce the availability of SME Server V5.1beta3 for developer testing. ***This is an _unsupported_ beta release, for developer testing only*** The latest image can be found at: ftp://ftp.e-smith.org/pub/e-smith/dev/5.1beta/iso/smeserver-5.1beta.iso It should also be available from mirror sites. The image is also available for rsync download, which is the recommended download method. See: http://www.e-smith.org/docs/howto/rsync-mini-howto.php3 The development team would like to thank our partners and members of the developer community for the assistance provided with ongoing development of the SME Server product. In particular we would like to thank: - Darrell May for his contribution of manager panel code for control of the roaming profiles feature of Samba, as well as Greg Zartman, Des Dougan, Bart Koppers and many others for their testing of the Samba upgrade. - Kees Blokland, Bertrand CHERRIER, David Beveridge and Filippo Carletti for their extensive assistance in debugging and testing of the passive ISDN support. We'd also like to thank everyone who reported bugs in previous test releases. If anyone discovers any problem with this release, please report the problem to [EMAIL PROTECTED] We can't fix problems unless we know that they exist! Summary of differences 5.1beta1 -> 5.1beta3 -------------------------------------------- This release includes new package updates, and some new features. - Continued refinement of the Mitel Networks branding changes - Improvements to the reporting of quota violations. Summary reports of quota violations are sent to the admin email address as well as directly to users. These reports can be customised via custom templates. - Many improvements to the experimental support for passive ISDN cards. Synchronous PPP using the ISDN specific PPP daemon from the isdn4k-utils package is now used for ISDN Internet access (although the existing method using modem emulation is still available by setting an isdn service property in the configuration database). This sync method is faster and more reliable and offers the prospect of upgrading to 128k using PPP multilink. More PCI ISDN cards are now autodetected by the console configuration wizard. - Apache has been upgraded to version 1.3.22. Apache has been patched to fix a bug in the mod_proxy module which caused connection timeouts during manager access - notably during the backup verify and restore panels. - The workgroup panel has a new option to allow samba support for roaming profiles to be enabled and disabled. - The blades installation interface has continued to evolve. The display list of blades has been re-organised, and there is now a link to on-line documentation for each blade. A list of installed blades is now kept locally, so that blades which no longer appear in the list of blades available from the NOC are still displayed as installed. The status of blades which have been superceded, are incomplete, or which have been modified since installation (for example, by having a component upgraded) is now correctly displayed. - Changes to log file rotation. Log files with dated filenames are now removed after 35 days, rather than left indefinitely. - Two problems in fetchmail configuration have been fixed. - A number of problems with netatalk, the Mac file sharing daemon, have been fixed. These fixes include a number of configuration changes, as well as an update to the init.d script to allow Netatalk to start correctly in the background. - Support for USB printers has been fixed. - When FTP access is disabled, the ftp port is now blocked by the IPChains packet filter. - This release includes an update to kudzu, so that more SCSI adaptors and ethernet NICs are correctly detected. - Miscellaneous reported bugs from the previous beta have been fixed.
