> Is it necessary in my case

The vulnerability affects all versions of PHP prior to 4.1.2 (and,
according to some people, including 4.1.2), though it's said to be
more difficult to exploit under 4.1.1 than under most earlier
versions. I have patched versions of 4.1.2 ready for my contrib area
on e-smith.org; once they're up there, I'll announce it here.
