*Replying to Brandon's insightful analysis of the various web-based groupware products*
============================================================================== Twiggi - run Twiggi for over a year, all the basic features of groupware, I feel it needs more work on the scheduler and group functions ============================================================================== What I like about Twiggi, is that it 'just works.' No major problems, it seems to integrate nicely into SME and has a simple and effective interface. Not a bunch of features that *most* day-to-day office workers will not need anyway. Although, spell-check does seem to be hosed. And I agree that the scheduling and group functions need work. I especially don't like that you can't invite individual members to an appointment, only groups. One major advantage of Twiggi is that, like IMP, it can use the LDAP. Under the other packages, I see no way to maintain a GAL of users within the company that will also have accounts on the SME box. By using the LDAP, you don't have to add users specifically to the groupware program when a new employee comes on. ============================================================================== moregroupware (www.moregroupware.org) - all basics features, nice easy interface, only problem is that the webmail is for pop not imap! Also has projects management tools ============================================================================== I actually wasn't too impressed with the interface of more. Admittedly, I have not installed this package, I'm basing my opinion on the online demo. ============================================================================== phprojekt (www.phprojekt.org) - all basics, definately designed for enterprise use, light and quick interface, excellent group and users control, modular design, extra features like chat, forum, ============================================================================= For the most part, phprojekt is way cool. The email interface ruins it for me, though. Also, the whole thing, while looking very well done, does not really have a 'professional' feel to it. Of course, that is highly subjective. ============================================================================= Tutos (www.tutos.org) - basics, design project management, enterprise products, has teams, departments, managers, assign request to to team members, calendar has a cute meeting voting feature. Found the installation a little fuzzy the first time around. ============================================================================= I hate to say it, but Tutos sucks really, really hard. It's a very good concept, but the user interface just blows. Adding a user is confusing. Trying to dig through all of the links to find tasks overviews is insane. Also, this is geared twards project managment, not day-to-day office work. ============================================================================== phpgroupware (www.phpgroupware.org) - very popular product, all basic features, has many add-ons for it's modular design, initial releases were buggy but they seem to have ironed out alot of the bugs, features like forums, weather, news, squirrelmail....etc, etc ============================================================================== phpgroupware is very, very cool, but lacks a 'professional' feel (my same complaint of phprojekt.) Again, that is highly subjective. To me (based on just a few hourse of testing,) Sherpath looks like it closes some of the holes in Twiggi, while not adding a ton of features that aren't needed. I look forward to seeing further develpment of this package.
