I have had very nice results with reoback,
http://sourceforge.net/projects/reoback

I set up IIS on a W2K Pro workstation (just the iis and ftp servers to
save space and then set up reoback by hand on my e-smith server. Not
being proficient/confident enough with Perl, I did not bother to set up
a panel for it.

On the W2K box I just went to

Administration Tools -> Internet Services Manager -> Default FTP Site

I then checked the read, write, and log visits boxes and Unix Directory
Style listing, and under Security tab entered a username and password to
use for the backups.

It works like a charm

reoback will do a full and incremental backups and ftp the files to the
W2K box based using a crontab entry for time (I set it up in the middle
of the night and total time takes anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes). The
files are compressed, (tgz) and there is no 2Gb Samba limit, unlike the
flexbackup to a workstation.

reoback uses a simple config file in /etc/reoback/... and runs in cycles
of your choosing, for example, if you have a 5 day cycle, it will do a
full backup on day 1 and incrementals on days 2 thru 5. On day 6 it will
again do a full backup and then delete days 1 thru 5 to save disk space.

You also have the option of keeping local copies.

I've been very satisfied with the results and find that it works a
little faster than my HP 24i scsi unit.

Regard,

John C.
