We have a hospital and a nursing home both using Jabber, they like it even better than MSN.
They are both ended up using the official jabber.com client, they have tried other client and some didn't have enough features and some had too many.

This is a contrib I wrote about a year ago. It provides a user interface in server-manager for adding users and turning on/off transport services like MSN,AOL etc.

Late last year MSN changed Messenger protocol and the MSN transport no longer works.
