I know everyone is busy, but I'd just like a minute or two of your
time. The response I've had on IIP to the proposal I put up for
allowing Freenet to operate over arbitrary network topologies by
means of JMS ([EMAIL PROTECTED]/freenetOverJMS/2//)
has been very positive, but some people weren't familiar with JMS or
MOMs, so I wrote up a brief intro to message oriented middleware (MOM),
which is up at
[EMAIL PROTECTED]/enterpriseMessaging/1//

I'm not asking anyone to change what they're doing or reprioritize
their workload in any way, I'm just hoping for some feedback from
those of you who know Freenet and Fred way way way better than I do as to
whether that proposal is the direction Fred wants to go in.

I have no qualms with people saying that no, Fred shouldn't support
JMS - I'll just fork off the codebase and rebuild another Freenet
node implementation that does. If compelling reasons can be
found that JMS/MOMs shouldn't be used for Freenet, so be it (though
I'm pretty certain that FNP and FCP, as asynchronous message oriented
protocols, are perfectly suited to MOMs, that Freenet must be able
to operate over network topologies more complex than simple point to
point socket connections, and that Fred would be best served by
factoring out that low level message passing layer into a MOM that can
deal with the intricacies of the network's topology).

Yes, I'm offering to spearhead the Freenet over JMS project. If
necessary, I'll fork off Fred and go from there, but if the JMS
transport seems like something Fred will want later on, this project
could be done over a branch or even by patches to the HEAD. Of course, if
you have any advice to share about adding MOM support to Fred, I'd love
to discuss it further.

Thanks for your time
