Nodes MUST specialize if freenet is going to work. The more specialized the better as long as they maintain a little data from every part of the keyspace for deniability. Aside from anonymity I think specialization/routing is what distinguishes freenet from other P2P systems. Most others use a centralized server (huge legal liability) or a broadcast search (slow and non-scalable). But freenet routes. At least, it's supposed to. And it does that based on what your node specializes in. Right now freenet is little better (and perhaps worse depending on what's going on with the just-discovered bugs) than a broadcast search. When nodes specialize we will see much faster finding of data and lower network load due to data being found more efficiently. -- Tracy Reed http://copilotconsulting.com
