According to the discussions I had now, funders normally want to see the project succeed: We define a goal to achieve with the money, and if a funder is interested we get money. Then we better achieve that goal, if we want to get further funding: Our success with the funders money rubs off onto the funder (or at least the funding agent who spots promising projects to fund).
