Hi all fcptools users, hackers etc. I give notice that fwproxy is officially on death row, due to its instability, and the painfully elusive bug which brings it down at random.
The replacement http client will be 'fcpproxy', which I expect to have working within a day or two. fcpproxy is based on the extremely robust 'junkbusters' proxy engine, customised and enhanced for freenet gateway access. The rationale is that switching over to junkbusters is taking less time than it would to totally nail the bugs in the existing fwproxy engine. If I had an Athlon ICE, ($15k+), or good skills with the SoftICE debugger, I might feel differently. But time is of the essence here, and the sooner we have a stable http client, the better for everyone. fwproxy will stay available in cvs for the immediate future. But as soon as fcpproxy gets a clean bill of health, fwproxy will be permanently eliminated from the cvs tree and the binary download directory. Please note that fcpproxy is already in cvs, but it's not in a working state yet - I just have to add the last hook to route freenet requests out to ezFCPlib, and it will be working. So mjr, oierw, Nagano and other developers with your heads under the bonnet - please incorporate your ongoing changes into the fcpproxy sources. Please beware that some modules have been renamed, and some identifiers changed.
