But the first node can check network connectivity, and can make sure
that the reference the 0th node is giving out is correct.  The 0th
node can't do that.  This can lead pretty directly to a system where
if all the nodes you announce to say you're unreachable, the node can
pretty well tell (and warn the user) that it's not going to be part of
the network
