I quite agree. It would be a shame to wait for v1.0.0 or later before
developing for the Gnome canvas if it is the right technology though. I
wonder how much needs to be installed for Gnome Canvas to be of use. I
also wonder if it's possible to right another display renderer for the
Gnome Canvas widget in *additional* to the current plain vanilla GTK+
widgets. That way the Gnome Canvas might be supported as an option
rather than as a requirement. Probably worth investigating...
