I've seen other conference streams where the image of the speaker is very narrow, and therefore they can consume most of the screen with the slides. I think that's ideal.
Picture-in-picture has been requested many times in the past, with different examples given. This format you mention has come up several times. Next year, I'll ask ahead of time if we can arrange something like that.
