    foo((i){ ++i; return;}); // unambiguous
    foo((i){ return ++i;}); // unambiguous

That was just an example. Those short lambdas are often used as predicates. 
Compare:

findAll(array, (i) { i > 3; });
findAll(array, (int i) { return i > 3; });
