That's why we wrote it would be better to use some rolling release
like Archlinux where distro cannot become so outdated that it's not
possible to upgrade easily.
Walter needs something he can install and get on with compiler hacking.
ArchLinux sounds quite far from that.
I'd just recommend upgrading to an Ubuntu LTS (to also minimize the
requirement of familiarizing yourself with a new distribution).
