It doesn't matter *what* you choose, somebody will complain it is too small or too large. That doesn't mean that some choices aren't better than others. Going by default size and making the fonts relative to that is the way to go, assuming smaller sizes are justified to squeeze in text to cramped spaces.

Large blocks of text descriptions should be at the default size. Then if somebody complains about that, tell them to fix their defaults instead of imposing their monitor and browser settings on the rest of the Internet.
