Using a mono plug on the Mic input of the soundcard is no
problem.
Using a mono plug on the soundcard speaker output shorts the
two channels and can burn out the audio amp. Been there - done
that!

Will be there and will see what happens.... Will
move with you as conditions require. Strong signals on 10.120
PSK right now. Beacons are doing pretty well, with the K5AB Beacon
in Central, Texas coming in here at a solid S9 on

Hello
all,
Would digital modes such as RTTY, PSK31, Oliva, etc, work with a
mono microphone connection, or does it need
stereo?

All
Mike inputs are mono (on amat.equipment) if you mean on the sound card, then
stereo is always recommended..

I
run mono with no problems at all. I don't think you'll have problems.
I'm not sure who always recommends stereo.

Specifications?
What are the preferred specifications for
sound processing for the most exacting Ham modes, please?
I am
beginning the design of a audio chain that will double for Ham and home
studio purposes.
Is 24-bit/96kHz suitable to meet the needs
well into the near-term future?
I have Ham interests in ATV, DATV,
SSTV, DSSTV, assorted digital modes, and LinRad.
My son has
interests in audio and video recording and processing and the production of
material for streaming Internet audio and perhaps video.
I also
record and send public service announcements to radio stations from time to
time and they have somewhat rigid requirements.

Line inputs are stereo.
Microphones are mono, but have a
third wire for powering condenser mics - hence the "stereo" plug and the
need for any extension cable to be "stereo". If I recall correctly,
the tip is power, it's the middle ring that's the audio input, so any
attempt at using mono connectors just shorts out the audio
input.

I
think we gave everything except what was asked....
Yes, you
can use the mic connector on your soundcard, just be aware the level is
"hotter" and keep the level down.
