Rick I belive you hit the hail on the head in part. I agree with you on Pactor 3 as I do use it even keyboard to keyboard. I will say it once again that I love the AQR modes (amtor & pactor) and still use both today.
If I recall, the ARRL a number of years ago ask the ham programmers to step up and come up with a new sound card ARQ mode that was not as wide as amtor or pactor and you see what we have today. What we have is not much more then changing tones giving it a new name and calling it a new mode to the tune of about 2 dozen modes. Till then I'll keep my 4 TNC's and the 2 model 28 RTTY machines.
