Hello, Simon, and thanks for the reply. When I first noticed the problem I started checking all the obvious things, such as squelch threshold, preamp/attenuator settings, and so on. The problem isn't with just weak signals, however. It is with all RTTY signals. Even a strong signal has quite a bit of character loss.
The sound card is a Diamond brand internal PCI card that I've had for only a few weeks, and I'm reasonable certain it's not in surround mode, but will check that again tonight to be sure. PSK decoding seems to be unaffected and still decodes even weak signals with almost no character loss, even on weak DX signals. RTTY signals lose quite a bit - maybe 20 percent or so - regardless of what software package is used. Late last night I discovered that the calibration was way off, so I haven't had a chance yet to try it with the new settings. When I get home from work this evening I'll be trying it once again. As a side note, Feld Hell and OLIVIA reception also do not seem to be affected, as I had QSOs with thos modes with excellent copy.
